Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik advanced to the final of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships when his semifinal opponent, Andrey Rublev, was disqualified by match officials due to poor conduct.
The intense match reached a critical point in the third set at 6-5 when Rublev was penalized for verbally confronting a match official.
The contentious encounter, ultimately concluding in Bublik’s favor with a scoreline of 6-7 (4/7), 7-6 (7-5), 6-5, featured numerous heated moments, with both players expressing their frustration towards the German chair umpire, Miriam Bley.
Despite the tense atmosphere and disputes over calls, the players showcased remarkable tennis skills, delivering impressive shots against each other.
The climax occurred when Rublev, after a heated exchange with a line official, was dramatically disqualified for his loss of composure.
Ranked fifth in the world, Rublev aimed for his third consecutive Dubai final, having won the tournament in 2022 and finishing as the runner-up to Daniil Medvedev last year.
In the final on Saturday, Bublik will face the winner of the second semifinal between defending champion Medvedev and Ugo Humbert of France.
